The Texas Ten Step Star Achiever Breastfeeding Learning Collaborative: An Initiative to Improve Infant Nutrition and Care is an initiative of the Texas Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program, the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and the National Initiative for Children’s Healthcare Quality (NICHQ). The purpose of the Texas Breastfeeding Learning Collaborative is to increase exclusive breastfeeding throughout Texas in the immediate postpartum period and continuing through six months of age by creating environments in which women’s choices concerning breastfeeding can best be supported. More specifically, NICHQ will enable facilities to complete the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding and effectively connect mothers to post-discharge community supports for breastfeeding.
This learning collaborative will use a change model, known as the Model for Improvement and a learning model, identified as the Breakthrough Series (BTS) Collaborative. Both have demonstrated effectiveness in previous projects that NICHQ has undertaken with various regional, state and national stakeholders. NICHQ will engage parents in this work to address and measure disparities in care and outcomes throughout the process.
Deadline for applications for COHORT A will be: November 21, 2012
